Some wonderfully thoughtful friends of mine gave me a birthday gift of "prime" ribeye steaks from the Clovis Meat Market. They are not big on red meat and assumed that a place called the Meat Market could be relied upon for some good beef. However, I feel the need to publicly shame the Meat Market for what it is selling for $32.99 (online price, I assume the store price is the same or close) a pound and claiming it to be "prime". These are NOT prime ribeyes. They appear to be passing of Choice as Prime. For $33 per pound this should be the most magnificent piece of steak available...and it's not. Also note that these people can't even cut a steak evenly, which of course affects cooking. Walmart sells true Prime Ribeyes with fantastic marbling for literally half the price. Costco as well for a few bucks more. The Meat Market is ripping people off. AVOID it and don't assume you are getting good meat or a good price because you are not. Hell, they can't even take the time or care enough to cut the steaks properly!

I had such high expectations from the restaurant area. I hadn't bought a breakfast burrito there in years. I couldn't wait to try one again and introduce my son as well. The potatoes were firm and nothing was like what I remembered. There was hardly any egg in it. Moving on weeks later, I decided to try the sandwiches, tri-tip for my son and chicken for me. My poor kid couldn't even take a good bite. It was full of thick pieces of fat. The chicken was very dry and firm. Fries were nothing to brag about. The only decent thing was the potato salad!! No drinks. Service was not great as the gal was not that friendly at all. Swear people hate working these days!! $40 lunch for two, definitely not worth it at all!! Please do better!! I'd hate to see another business disappear.

From the deli, we often get chucks. They are not very good cuts these days. Massive amounts of waste after cooking it because there's not much meat there. There's lots of fat n hard stuff throughout. The meaty parts do come out very tender; I'll give them that. So yes, they deserve their one star for that and the potato salad.

I recently visited this market and was happy I did. They have a great selection of meats, adult spirits, and spices. They also make sandwiches and have tri tip Tuesday specials. I’d recommend checking them out if you’re in the area.

Have always loved the sandwiches and sides at this location; bought a pulled pork sandwich today that was dry, bread tasted stale & no BBQ sauce. Most disappointing meal ever! Asked for sauce on the side & NOTHING.

I went there to pick up prime ribs. I asked the person behind the counter if he could put seasoning on my meat for me he refused. And told me I could get the marinated ribeye which were terrible. When I go to a place like this I expect good service and people that know what they’re talking about and how to treat people and how to deal with their meats. Very dissatisfied with the customer service the people behind the counter seemed like little kids that didn’t know what they were doing.

This place is slipping. I used to come here about once or twice a month and drop well over a hundred bucks on steaks and wine, not to mention $300.00 on a holiday roast. The service was good up to this point. Today, the young man behind the butcher case walked up and literally SPIT either on the floor or into a garbage can (couldn't see that low) before greeting me. DISGUSTING.
I got past that without saying anything and selected a couple of tomahawk steaks to the tune of $175.00. I've been here plenty of times before and they have always been happy to remove the "handle"/ long bone AFTER weighing the steak. I understand that the bone weight is part of the price and have no problem paying for it; I just can't maneuver the steaks on my grill with the bone on. When I asked him to remove them he just stared at me and said "We don't do that". I even gave him the benefit of the doubt and said, "Oh, I guess the butcher has left for the day" (I know that not everybody is certified to use the electric meat saw, and when the actual butcher isn't there, the employees aren't able to operate the saw). Then he just kept staring at me and said, "No, the butcher's here; we just don't do that. Don't you have a saw at home?" I 'm not kidding, he actually said that.
Whole Foods, the OTHER Meat Market and even Save Mart have no problem doing this small service. I went ahead and paid for over $200.00 worth of products and left. The other butcher shops will be getting that money from here on out.
Do better.

MY SECOND REVIEW A WEEK LATER:

If I could give this establishment, again THE GRILL not the market, a 0 star or negative if I would. I was foolish to try it again after speaking to the manager Nancy last week based on the review below. But I did today as I was in the area looking at homes and wanted to give it a second chance.

I spoke with Sara, who was a manager on site. I told her Nancy asked that I come in. She was well aware of the situation as she read my previous Yelp review from last week. She was very nice and apologetic. She offered a refund or anything on the menu. The gesture was sweet of her. I chose to give them another chance and ordered food. Big mistake!

I ordered the brisket sandwich, which she highly recommended. This time I tried the macaroni salad and a side of chili beans for my mother. I thanked Sara for letting me sample the chili beans unlike the staff the week prior.

When I got home, the sandwich was 80% FAT ... I kid you not! When I broke the sandwich in half, all you could see was clear fat.

I don't know if she prepared it (I hope not) or if one of the staff members prepared it, but NO ONE should be served this type of meat. It was probably the worst brisket I have seen in my life! Each slice should not have 80% of fat. Every single piece! I'll let the pictures judge for themselves.

Yelpers - I hate to put places as such on blast, but this is a shame.

I called to speak to Sara and the same girl from my previous review answered the phone. She advised Sara had left for the day and Kiersten was the manager on site. I was there an hour ago!

Kiersten refused to speak to me - the girl asked for my name and number for a call back. I asked, "so there's literally no one to speak with?" ... I even offered to hold as I wanted to correct the wrong. Her response was I can take your phone number. Whom ever this girl is ... she's RUDE and should not interact with customers.

I was hoping to change my review to a 4 or 5 . NOPE!

Anyway, I will not be going back to this establishment ... well the GRILL part - whatsoever!

I did like the macaroni salad and beans.

It's a very nice place to shop for fresh meat and vegetables. I bought ground beef and 2 lbs of chicken jalapeno sausage. They tasted very good after BBQ, but they were a little watery during the cooking. Would still recommend you stop by and shop there. They have a large selection of meats
