Not sure if it was a bad day to go. It was Good Friday. There was NOT ENOUGH places to sit. If you were in the STANDING ROOM AREA you could not see the birds that were being auction. For us it was VERY DISAPPOINTING. Traveled over 2 hours and after an hour of STANDING, being very unstable due to standing on the junk that was there. We left and went home.
When and If we go back, I might change the rating.

First time attending... very nice variety of animals, met others who were happy to share their knowledge. Walking through was a bit risky -- looking down at animals made it much likelier to hit your head on an overhead beam!
Pretty much the only thing I'd change.

One day they'll take a few weekends and make it less dangerous, but the cow/goat/sheep area looks like it's falling down and the walkways are so uneven you're likely to end up with someone in your lap more often than not. Animals are frequently very, very ill or have visible deformities (the llama last week was in awful condition). They start everything at prices even billionaires couldn't dream of and end up working their way down to 50-100$, sell most of it to the buddies in the front row, and sneer at the audience constantly. This isn't usual auctioneer teasing, Nathan and his staff are very rude and cliquey, only really bothering with their favorites. Between the animals in deplorable shape (if it walks, it's getting sold and they will not turn anything away no matter how sick it is, which leads to outbreaks among the stock waiting to be sold) and the lousy attitudes of the staff, the fact that they are frequently auctioning guns that they don't have licenses to auction per the licenses on the walls of the office, and everything else?

Skip Springfield. Skip their cronies elsewhere, too. Most of the livestock markets in this area are trashy, run by trashy people who will scream "we got the goats" when all they have is a goat that can barely walk because it has mastitis so bad it's udder looks like it's about to rip right off the connective tissue as they run her around the ring and a bunch of extremely underfed, coccidia-ridden nigerian dwarves. And they all start at $250. And every country boy in the audience either isn't looking or is hee hawing right along with the auctioneer who made another politically-based joke for no reason.

Meanwhile, none of the pens have water on 115F days and the animals are gasping for breath so they slap them around a little in the ring to rile them up. I cannot tell you how many times they open a poultry box and say "oh two times your money-wait, no. one. one times your money" because one of the birds in there died from heatstroke.

If SC law required a vet out, Springfield would be shut down. Hopefully, one day it is.

Great auction for a variety of livestock and farm equipment. Friendly staff and nice little concession stand with hot dogs, boiled peanuts, and other snacks. The auctioneer had a sense of humor and communicated very clearly. Look at their Facebook page for a preview of what they'll have that week.

During my first visit, they had a peacock, puppies, the fluffiest bunny I've ever seen, and lots of other great animals. I left with 8 decent chickens for about $60. I would recommend to anyone looking for livestock and I will definitely be going back for more. Maybe I'll bring home some piglets next time!

A disclaimer for the not-so-country folk: there is no air conditioning or heat besides some fans. There is only one male and one female restroom. This place does smell like a petting zoo for a few minutes until you get used to it. Overall, it was a pretty awesome country experience.

Overall a great place to buy livestock and farm equipment! People are friendly. Place nostalgic. Don't be in a hurry. They do not follow schedule as advertised...or anyway near schedule times. Already two hours past time for advertised items to be auctioned. Otherwise great place if you don't mind the wait or have a schedule yourself.
