The Sitka Sound Science Center is a hidden gem for anyone interested in marine life and conservation. The touch tanks were an interactive highlight, especially for getting up close with sea stars and other local marine creatures. But what really set the experience apart was the chance to witness how salmon is processed. It was fascinating to learn about the life cycle of salmon and how they play a crucial role in the local ecosystem. Plus, the center’s dedication to education and preserving Sitka’s marine environment is truly inspiring. This is a fantastic stop for anyone wanting to dive deeper into the science behind Alaska’s waters.

I wasn’t sure if I would like the Sitka Sound Science Center, mostly because of the smell! Turns out the aquarium inside was fantastic, the colors of the marine life was so vivid!! Learning about the harvesting of the salmon eggs was also pretty fascinating.

Nice touch tank and a few aquariums with local sea animals. The gift shop was quaint. There were tours of the salmon hatchery, but we didn't take one because we wanted time with the touch tanks.

What a great place to learn about the local Ocean Dwellers. Hands on exhibit (tailored to kids but great for adults). Meet and touch sea anemones, sea cucumbers, starfish and more. Learn about the salmon hatchery, too. Staff is awesome and generous with answering questions about the sealife.

Wonderfully interactive aquarium of local sea life. Located in a picturesque setting adjacent to Sitka Historic Park (Totem Park). A must do if you have kids or are a kid at heart. The touch pools were fun and the gift shop had great kids gift items.

Did not enter due to an entry fee. Lots of salmon around. Happened to walk by during the salmon sorting time and was quite amazed by how open they did this. Probably not too suitable for families.

We went for the touch tanks, which were a lot of fun for both the kids and adults in our group. The hatchery tour was part of the ticket, and I was apprehensive at first but it ended up being awesome! Our guide, Julie, was so passionate about the ecology of the salmon and we learned some really cool stuff. Plus the tour was only half an hour (touch tanks are at your own pace, we spent about 20 minutes), so we had plenty of time to explore town before we were due back at our ship. I would definitely recommend this one!
