Pedrick Produce on Highway 80

Whenever we travel south on Highway 80 towards Sacramento, we must stop at Pedrick Produce. This unassuming barn-style stand, easily overlooked by speeding drivers, offers a fresh, seasonal produce treasure trove.

While the location might lack scenic views, Pedrick Produce makes up for it with quality. They source their fruits, vegetables, and even flavored pistachios directly from neighboring farms in the heart of Sacramento Valley's mega-farms. Beyond the standard offerings, I'm a huge fan of their delicious and healthy flavored almonds and nuts - perfect for a satisfying snack. They also have a selection of local honey available in different flavors.

Founded in 1989 by brothers Henry and Frances Barraza, Pedrick Produce has built a loyal following by prioritizing locally sourced produce at fair prices.

So, next time you're cruising down Highway 80 South, slow down and keep an eye out for this hidden gem. You won't regret taking a break to experience the freshness and quality of Pedrick Produce!

I love to stop here and see what deals they have on produce and food items. There's something satisfying about purchasing from local farmers. I recently bought some amazing purple kale from Pedrick and loved it! There are some cool novelty hot sauces and seasonings (price is a bit marked up, but still cool to see). I used to love the tamales, but I got food poisoning from them the last time I had them and couldn't get myself to eat them again, which is the only reason I couldn't give 5 stars.

This is a great place to stop when you are traveling 80. They have everything from fresh fruits to fresh vegetables. Plus, they have a great selection of dried fruits and a whole bunch of different kinds of candy. The prices are ok, but the staff is friendly, and it's just a cool place to stop for a quick snack or stock up on fresh food.

I always make time to pull off exit 67 on I-80 and visit Pedrick Produce. The produce is awesome and usually includes freshly harvested items at very affordable prices. I plan my diet around seasonal harvesting and this produce seems to last longer than items from traditional grocery stores. The staff is hard working, dedicated, friendly and always willing to help. They also have a wide variety of dried fruit and nut snacks, gift items, and many sauces and spices to explore. I LOVE Pedrick Produce!

Pedrick is located right off of I-80 about halfway between Dixon and Davis. They sell a wide range of produce, dried fruits/veg, nuts, hot sauces, pickles, honey, salami, candies, homemade pies, tamales, etc. Most of their products are locally sourced, but not everything - just look at the labels or ask.

The area is walnut/almond country, so in the late fall, I always buy bags of the new crop of local walnuts and almonds to take home. The quality is great, and I’ve found it to be cheaper than buying it at farmers markets or supermarkets. Another standout is their raisins - they are soft, flavorful, and just amazing. They use various types of grapes, so it's unlike anything you buy at the supermarket - perfect for over-the-top oatmeal raisin cookies. In my opinion, the best time to go to Pedrick is during the summer, when the local harvests are at their peak and the store is bursting with local produce. Something is always in season in California, but I don’t think anything compares to the summer.

Pedrick is also known for their tamales which are actually made by Chepo’s in Elmira (right outside of Vacaville). They seem to get delivered between 10 and 11 AM. They sell three kinds at Pedrick - pork, chicken, and chile verde with cheese. Sr. Jose Leyva (owner of Chepo’s) uses his grandma’s recipes to make the Northern Mexico-style tamales, so they taste homemade and are pretty awesome. Pork is by far my favorite, and unfortunately, they sometimes sell out. They are also super dense and sleep coma-inducing, so buyer beware if you are driving long distance.

It’s not a big store, so on weekends (especially summer), it feels really cramped and can be hard to shop. If you are able to stop by mid-week, it’s a lot more pleasant, and you can take your time to browse their wonderful selection
