A fishing and hunting paradise. All the surrounding areas from Mt. Shasta to Lassen Volcanic National Park is a must see and must experience adventure. There are many types of venues for weekend camping, some are unique, but I have discovered accomodations are limited. I personally own an undeveloped three acres in Modoc County near a town called Lookout, geographically positioned to conveniently visit or experience any number of places in the scenic Nor Cal area. I mention this because it occurred to me what I should do with this large of a property located within the Southern Cascade Mountains in beautiful forested area. I am going to turn it into a fishing, hunting, and recreational camp and eventually open it to the public. This is the perfect answer for how to use this property as the population swells throughout the are during the Spring, Summer, and Fall months, making it difficult for vacationers to find places to stay and enjoy this tremendously beautiful area.
I will be located in this area for a few years, and currently discovering so many known, as well as unknown places to see, creating the perfect opportunity to explore and report locals places of interest so as to make it very convenient for anyone to plan a fantastic getaway. This place is Exceptional!!!

Not many people can say they get to live in the Modoc National Forest..but I do! We absolutely love it up here! It's peaceful, it's quiet, it's beautiful! And I love when we get these thunder and lightening storms.. it's so relaxing to sit and watch the rain and hear the thunder! This really is the last frontier of what used to be the wild west!

If you like the wide open spaces, this entire area is for you. Sweeping vistas and high desert grandeur are just a couple benefits of extreme north-eastern California. Wildlife is both abundant and varied: Great Horned Owls, Pronghorn Antelope, Cougars, and more. Though you are less likely to actually see a cougar, rest assured that they see you! The terrain encompasses dense forested mountains and high sage desert, wild creeks and reservoirs, and more. Views of the two southernmost of the majestic cascades - Mount Shasta and Mount Lassen - and the leading edge of the Sierras are peppered throughout.

This is a fabulous place to visit, and a beautiful drive if you are simply passing through.

I never get tired of coming here.

Modoc National Forest is home to Lava Beds National Monument. We entered via the North Entrance. The 14 mile drive to the monument is absolutely beautiful with tall pines and an occasional cinder cone along the way. RV's will have no problems. There is a small visitor's center with museum that you must stop at before visiting the caves (lava tubes, there are many). The tubes vary from easy and paved to difficult. Enjoy a short visit at the center and Mushpot cave (easy) or an extended stay at the campground and go carving to your hearts content. We did Mushpot, drove the cave loop then entered Valentine on our way out of the park. Very nice visit.

Very rugged terrain and sparsely populated. Several lots of various sizes and prices. The entire area is economically depressed and the environment looks it in many areas. Still, a decent place to start a family if your of the SURVIVALIST BREED!!
