Ordered from this hatchery in October and would never recommend them in good conscience. We experienced an exceptionally high mortality rate as well as physical deformities and neurological problems in the majority of the 20 chicks. Will never order from here again.
I recommend mcmurray hatchery or cackle hatchery instead.
I don't want a refund. I want companies who sell livestock to provide a higher quality of care.🤙🏼 Our years of ordering from cackle and McMurray have been so much better than this. I'll continue taking my business to them and leave this review just so other customers can make informed decisions.

Editing my review to 3 stars. Bought Ideal Poultry Golden Star female chicks from The Outpost Feed & Outdoors in Walker, La. Wound up with a rooster. Bought sex link chicks to prevent this. The Outpost’s response was “It’s rare, but it happens. Nothing we can do about it because we just sell what Ideal Poultry sends us.” Ideal Poultry got paid for a female, The Outpost got paid for a female and now I’m stuck with a rooster that I have to give away. I’m out money for the “female” chick and then feeding it for 7 weeks. It’s not the money that I’m out that irritates me, it’s the fact that I was sold something different than what I bought and The Outpost takes ZERO responsibility for it. You all got paid and the end customer gets screwed.

I ordered dark cornish bantams they were delivered in 2/15/24. I have raised them up and started hatching their eggs, so far out of the first batch one was born with no eyes, the other one was solid black and a 3rd of the size, another has a deformed foot. I was afraid of genetic problems when ordering from a hatchery this was my 1st time it will definitely be my last.
Ideal hatchery should know better. Probably from inbreeding, to say the least. All that time, effort and money wasted. Below are the pictures of the parents and the chicks. I never seen this before been messing with chickens my whole life, wouldn't recommend look for yourself.

I ordered 4 California white chicks a week ago. They arrived the day after shipped. They are very healthy and hardy. They shipped on the coldest day of the year at that point. I followed all directions from their website and am tickled on how the little ladies are growing. Thank you Ideal!

If you are a bird lover, DO NOT order shipped chicks from them. Any respectable hatchery check the weather status before deciding to ship chicks. Moreover, if you order gel, it’s to be left with the chicks in the box so they can survive if the delivery takes too long. I forgot to order the heating pad and got an email asking if I want to be added to the box, so I replied that I would like one that is for 72 hours and at that time, I was very happy that they thought to this. Here we are today, January 24 at 6:43 AM, crying my eyes out as I went before 6 at the post office since I noticed that the chicks arrived at my Post Office before 4 am but not call. The Post Office always called me, but this time, they did not as they chicks were not sent in expedite and the small box with small writing on it and quiet, was not noticed. We open the box there and all chicks were dead… no gel, no heating.. Heartbreaking… I called their customer service ( very rude and speaking over), and requested a refund. Never buying from them and I will make sure other chicken lovers know about my experience. We will see how the refund goes but it will not erase the guilt of knowing the agonizing few days for this chicks.

I placed an order in January 2024 for some chicks (9) different breeds. 2 Polish, Brahma, Easter Eggers, Blackstar + more. They shipped February 14th and arrived at my postal office February 15th at 5am. I was called to come grab them I went immediately at that time, they were all chirping away and healthy. I’m so pleased with my order and my chicks. They are super healthy and still thriving. I would definitely be ordering from here again next year! I was super nervous due to the weather in our area at the time. I’m from Massachusetts and it was coming from Texas. Im super happy with my order. I will also be recommending this hatchery to my friends! Thank you ideal poultry for my chicks, I’m so in love with them and you made it so much easier with how quickly they came, no stress at all. Thank you!!

absolute worst experience ever ordering with ideal. ordered from meyers, mt healthy and mcmurray without issue but the issues i’ve had with ideal are ridiculous!! ordered 10 mille fluers duccles and 10 porcelain duccles 3/4 of which died within 24 hrs. they replaced my order and over half of those died within 24hrs. and now what is left are maturing and all of my mille fluers are showing signs of being mixed breed. some with full combs and large waddles, some cleaned faced, some with beards but most completely without. each one looking completely different physically than the next! i don’t know how they’ve been in business this long but this is the most horrid experience i’ve ever had and would NEVER consider ideal as an option when ordering chicks
