I have received 2 shipments from Green Fire Farms (GFF). The first was June 27th - 6 chicks for 382.00 plus 2 free of charge. I lost one in the first 48 hours and another hours outside of that so they gave me a credit for another chick (which means you must buy more for them to be shipped). Out of this first group, I received a "straight run" of 5 Marans (plus 1 extra). The survivors were 4 roosters and 2 hens. I also received 3 legbars and 1 extra. Out of all of them I currently have 1 Marans hen left. (1 killed by neighbor dog). Legbars died quickly .
Marans became lame and wasted away. They got sick one at a time with at least 1 week or many times longer before another became lame. A necropsy later on in December on one of my roosters revealed Merek's dz. I ordered the vaccine for all chicks before shipped. I called GFF about one of the hens that had a bulge on her back that they suggested was the result of injury during shipping. Turns out it was a tumor which the chickens are riddled with when they have Mereks (I wonder if they suspected this). Before I knew what was going on, I ordered another shipment in August of 9 chicks (to redeem my credit) with 3 extra added for free. I payed for 6 Swedish Flower Hens and 1 exhibition Legbar - 243.00. I have lost 1 SFH (from GFF) so far from Mereks. At the same time, I ordered 8 chicks (including 1 legbar) from another hatchery that were vaccinated for Mereks as well. I kept them separated for the first weeks to watch for disease. There were no other chickens previously on the property. It has been heartbreaking watching them waste away and also putting them down. I have fed them the best feed & supplements, I have spent money on 2 vets and a necropsy. ABSOLUTELY devastating. I could have spent SO MUCH LESS on chicks of the same breeds from other farms, but chose GFF because of their breeding efforts for rare breeds. Did they REALLY vaccinate them? Out of the 2nd batch of chicks, I have lost the last 2 legbars (1 from each farm), 1 SFH (from GFF), & 1 blue copper marans is currently lame and is growing tumor on neck (she was purchased from another farm and was vaccinated for Merek.'s). I am bracing myself for ALL of my flock to die even with the vaccination. GFF website states Mereks is common and controllable with vaccine - does this mean it extends their life when infected to prolong their suffering? These infected chickens wanted to live - continued to eat and tried to move around even though they were miserable - I had to keep one alive long enough for the vet appt to have him euthanized and sent for necropsy. AWEFUL EXPERIENCE! I will need more time to decide, but I do feel that the SFH breed is much more resistant. Time will tell. With the amount of money GFF has spent on their rare breeds, I doubt they would destroy infected chickens to prevent outbreak, and will continue to sell them to make a profit. I am very disappointed.
4/12/24: GreenFire farms has never contacted me regarding this post. The Swedish Flower Hens I purchased from them are beautiful and flourishing. We had to put down ALL of the SFH roosters ( and they were beautiful!) because they were extremely aggressive. If you have small children, you won't want to keep one of these roosters around. They will attack you immediately over and over again even if you shoo them away- Maybe it's the line from GreenFire Farms that has aggressive tendencies. I added photo of the 1 Maran survivor (supposedly all vaccinated for Mereks) of the 6 Marans I bought for 382.00. You can see from her eye she also has Merek's but has survived 2 years.

Beautiful, healthy and well-tempered chicks. We ordered 55s and Bielefelders and I was shocked as to how quickly they arrived. We have ordered 5-6 batches of chicks in the last 6 months from major hatcheries and no shipping was as prompt as Greenfire. Our girls came alert and have had no issues one week later. The instructions and chick saver included is unlike any service I've had before and is great for anyone seasoned or new to chicks. Highly recommend!

I had originally left a 5 Star Review about a year or more ago. I spent the time since trying to purchase Watermail eggs. I was able to secure 14. A winter Vortex hit the midwest that same time they shipped the eggs. They were stuck in "shipping" for 10 days. Delayed by the storms. I reached out to GFF 4 seperate times trying to reach them about the eggs. Not a single response. Not even a "tough luck" response. NOTHING. I'll never do business with GFF again. Not because about $200 worth of eggs were ruined, but because their absolute refusal to speak to me during the process.

Absolutely no problems with order, timely communication all the way from order placement to chicks arrival at post office. Also a free chick of what I ordered not a rooster of a different breed. Beautiful chicks. Will order from here again.

I order the Rare breed Assortment hatching eggs. Got quickly after they were shipped. Absolutely love the packaging, labeling. And the variety of breeds. Also love knowing what I got and a key to let me know what eggs are what. Already trying to talk husband into another order.

I can't say enough good things about Greenfire Farms. Their customer service is amazing. We have purchased both hatching eggs and live birds. Their line of chickens leave no room for comparisons with other chickens that we've had. You might spend more but it is worth every extra penny.

Ordered eggs from eBay! Beautiful eggs came packed very well. 6-10 hatched American bresse! I’m fine with 60% on mail order eggs. 3 of the chicks only have wing feathers (on tips) 3 weeks old other bresse I hatched week before and after are 3/4 feathered out. I been trying to see if this is gene issue or anyone else had this happen? They are beautiful birds! You get what you pay for! Eggs were 60-75 grams Just wish I could get answer!!
