It is an awesome plant and self-care shop for plant lovers. This shop may be more on the pricier side, but I think it’s well worth the visit. The price is comparable to what I would find at a brick-and-mortar store, minus a pot. You can buy handmade pots from local artists here. The pots also don’t disappoint, and they’re unique.

This is just one lonely bastards perspective, nothing more. After reading a review by another person of color, I thought I’d share my own experience. I've been in Oakland for over 25 years, and I believe there are certain “gray zones” I call color lines, areas that feel like they’re meant for white folks. It’s almost like I can picture some guy on horseback stopping me, asking if I have permission to be there. Because of that, I tend to avoid these spots, even though they’re in my own city.

Places like Crimson Horticulture fall into this zone for me. Going there makes me step outside my comfort zone as a person of color, but my experience has been positive. The staff is friendly and helpful. I know someone else shared that they didn’t feel welcome, like they were being watched, but that wasn’t my experience.

When I first started going there, I admit I probably looked like the last person you’d think had a plant collection. I look rough, like a convict, not someone who loves and cares for plants. But that’s the truth—my plants mean a lot to me. I enjoy being there, learning from the staff, who definitely know more about plants than I do.

Is the store expensive? Yes, it’s a boutique in a wealthy area—what else can you expect? But again, this is just my take. If this place doesn’t vibe with you, there are plenty of other options out there. Just my two cents.

Incredible shop with the best selection of hand made pots big and small. Of course they've got great plants too, and yummy smelling things on top of that. But sometimes picking out a pot of your little gem is just as fun as the plant itself, and finding that special vessel is surprisingly rare given the # of plant shops around these parts. The shop keeper was super friendly and helpful as well. This place gets high marks in my book!

I have wanted a monstera forever and they had that for a good price, as well as countless other beautiful philodendrons, more varieties of snake plant than I knew of, cute fittonias and gorgeous prayer plants. So much to look at, I will have to return when I’m driving so I can bring more babies home!

Nice selection, but overpriced and no cash accepted? Another reason not to return. Ridiculous, this shouldn't be allowed. Money is money anywhere in the world (except in Piedmont seems like).

This is a cute store, but to say they sell “horticultural rarities” is really reaching. The plants always look healthy, but almost everything I’ve seen in this shop and the original shop throughout the years that I’ve visited are plants that you could find at any of the other reputable nurseries in the area that have a houseplant section.

That being said- they have cool pots and home decor items. I do really enjoy this shop a lot.

Crimson is one of my favorite plant stores in the Bay Area! They have a wonderful selection of basic and rare houseplants, all in great health. They also have the best gifts for loved ones, including ceramics made by local ceramicists! And the people are always so friendly and helpful. The vibes here are simply immaculate!

Such a helpful staff! I do not know a lot about plants, but knew I wanted a few for the apartment. The staff helped me pick out the ideal plants for the 3 locations and potted them in the store for me!

All of the plants are healthy and affordable! I’d highly recommend.
