We had an amazing time today at Bear Creek Organics! Richard helped us pick out some amazing apple and peach trees. We also chose some Paw Paw trees, white cherry bushes and aurosa honeyberry bushes! Richard is very knowledgeable and friendly. He helped us to pick the perfect trees and bushes to meet our needs. Can't wait to return in the spring for more!

We are DIYers. There are a few exceptions where we will call in professionals (taking down large dead trees, for example). When we turned our attention to building out the property at our homestead, we called Bear Creek Organics. We spent years removing invasives, but now wanted to purposefully and thoughtfully plant trees and bushes that would provide fruits and nuts for years to come. Trees are a long term investment with so many considerations that I wasn’t willing to wing it. Enter Richie at Bear Creek Organics. He came out for an initial consultation during which he detailed each of the services they offer- plants, landscape design, installations, education- as we discussed what we needed and wanted. We chose to have BCO put a design together. I can dig a hole and plant a tree, but it is out of my wheelhouse where the best spot in the yard is, how to enhance the soil, how to protect the tree, whether I need multiples for pollination, and natives vs enhance hardy varieties. Richie asked a lot of questions, and we landing on fruit varieties I would not have if I shopped at a chain store. Pawpaw, elderberry, aronia, along with peach, pear, plum, chestnut, walnut, hazelnut. We wanted things that could be eaten off the tree, or preserved. Richie mapped out locations for each in our yard, based on their needs (well drained, full sun, stream-side loving) and delivered them. We did the installation together, which was an opportunity for Richie to educate us on maintenance and care. One of the great things about BCO is that they will work with you as much or as little as you need. Do you just want to pick up plants and plant them yourself? You can do that. Do you want consult, plan, and install? They can do that. Do you want education? They have great workshops. We have completed phase 1, and will begin working on phase 2 in the spring. We highly recommend working with Bear Creek Organics!

I have been working with Rich from Bear Creek Organics the fall, to accomplish step one in our plan to make my yard functional, beautiful, and edible! I have a 1/2 acre plot, not a lot of ground but it was very hilly and did not drain well. Every time there was a decent rainfall, the yard would flood. In addition there are a lot of rocks and very little soil. The previous property owners had tried unsuccessfully to grow a lawn, I assume in an effort to make the yard more cohesive and pleasant to use. But due to poor soil quality and lack of sun in some places, the "lawn" was nothing more than a patchy obnoxious tripping hazard.
Rich first removed an unsightly deck; making room for the garden beds which will go in next spring. Then he corrected the drainage problem by regrading the slope of the yard and installing gravel. No more lake! Then he put weed fabric and a thick layer of mulch down over the soil surface. He also removed about 10,000 rocks!
Now my dogs have a safe and clean surface to play and run on. I won't have any more mud or standing water in the yard. So now the foundation for a completly new space is created, and I am ready to proceed with vegetable boxes and flowers/bushes in the spring.
Rich was always professional and I found him to be very knowledgable and happy to answer all of my questions. He left the work space very clean, and tidy whenever he left for the day. And my dogs love him....always a plus.

I emailed Richie to ask about a blueberry plant I wanted to buy and he offered to bring it to my home since he happened to be coming to my town that day. Incredible service! He had lots of good tips for planting my bush. I bought one last year that produced beautiful, delicious blueberries. Looking forward to another successful bush!

They have a decent sized collection of native flowers. They are organic so you don’t have to worry about pesticides harming your pollinators. They also do have some cool native trees and shrubs. The prices are great. I will return once I figure out more space for plants. They have little Joe Pye- which is so hard to find, 3 types of bee balm, clustered mountain mint. 2 types of milkweed, asters, a species of wrinkle leaf golden rod (this I could have the species wrong) that only grows 1 ft tall, anise hyssop, northern blue flag, and others I can’t think of at the moment. The bushes and trees are on their list. It is a fun little place where the plants are loved and grown organically. There’s also lots of edible plants. I’m still amazed that the corn had bees all over the tops, I’ve never seen that before!

Richie from Bear Creek Organics is so knowledgeable I really supported us as we were trying to navigate a layout for edible landscaping on our kids school property. He not only was very knowledgeable in the best placement for our fruit trees/bushes, but also had an eye for the aesthetic. Richie educated us in the best way to care for all the plants. His love for the trees and plants is palpable. It was wonderful to see a business have such devotion to caring for the Earth and dedication to creating a fertile, biodiverse environment. We were so happy with his work that we are now going to be working with him on a project at our own home. So excited to continue to working with Bear Creek Organics and grateful for the work you do in the world.

I first learned about these guys because I attended their Paw Paw Class earlier today... What a wealth of knowledge!! It was really interesting! We to learned information about the fruit, about how to grow them (we helped plant some trees, as well - for those of us who appreciate hands on learning), AAAANNNDDDD were able to try different varieties!! They had Paw Paws we could try off the tree, chilled and/or frozen! So YUMMY!! Such an amazing fruit!!

I also appreciated the edible landscaping, and the information about different heirloom varieties and native varieties of different plants (for example: corn and squash). It was amazing to be able to interact with everything (touch, smell, and eat corn and mint I've never seen before)!

All in all, it was an amazing day, and I can't wait for further classes!!
