The rooms are spacious with four beds in them. Some of them have fireplaces and are quite warm and others do not have fireplaces and I hear are quite cold. I was fortunate to request a room with a fireplace so I was toasty warm. The rooms are a little dated, with older plumbing and decor. But you cannot beat the view and the location.

I recently attended a meditation retreat here and had a wonderful experience. The setting is on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, with the sound of the ocean waves as a soothing background. The meeting room was great; however, the thermostat wasn't working in the bedroom, making it cold during the night and early morning. The good and the staff responsive to requests.

Old rooms and infrastructure (last time we stayed in December the room heat didn't work - but we paid for a fireplace, so only cold in the early morning). Food is also just ok. But the grounds are amazing (it is a state park after all). Great outdoor amenities and the beach is on your doorstep.

This hotel was not bad for a three-day stay. Although the room looked old, it was very clean, as was the bathroom. The room included a balcony with a view of the pine trees. We enjoyed walking outside the hotel, and it was conveniently located just a five-minute walk from the beach.

We were here for a large three day conference in Jan. 2024.
This facility is a historic site in a splendid setting owned by the State and operated by a contractor, Aramark. Staff seems very nice.
The rooms are very, very dated, (1960's) with severely reduced water flow and very slow hot water. Our room heater didn't work so the room was 62 degrees while the thermostat was set at max 85 degrees. Other attendees said their rooms were either too hot or also freezing. The king bed was reasonably comfortable. There are no TV's in the rooms.
The dining hall food was OK, but in a dinning area that holds hundreds, why are there only about six salt and pepper shakers? Also, no soda machines and the world's smallest cartons of juice at breakfast! Their ice water provided at meals has a distinctive "city water" smell and taste! Can't you get a water filter?
Overall, this place has stunning surroundings but the buildings are old but clean. Their room pricing is way too high for a facility that is outdated on the inside and run by an average government contractor. Your money would be better spent somewhere else locally.
Lastly, car parking is extremely limited, and the grounds vary some in elevation, making it difficult for those with mobility concerns, especially after dark. Thank goodness it wasn't raining as you would get soaked walking around the sprawling grounds!
Sorry to say, we won't be back and can't recommend.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I usually don’t bother reviewing subpar stays, but this experience was frustrating enough that I feel obligated to warn others.

Location: Beautiful. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end.

Rooms: Dated, with no way to adjust the temperature, awkwardly chosen “art,” and worst of all—ants. My first room had dozens crawling around, including in the bathroom. My second room? Still had ants, just fewer.

Customer Service: When I reported what seemed like an entire ant colony in my bathroom, there was no apology or immediate offer to change my room. I had to ask twice before they even sprayed. When the ants inevitably returned, they just offered to spray again. Only after insisting did they finally move me—into another room that also had ants.

Food: Throughout our stay, more and more people from our group started leaving to eat elsewhere or ordering DoorDash. That probably tells you everything you need to know about Asilomar’s catering.

Would I stay here again? Absolutely not.

I am sad that I can no longer recommend Asilomar. The natural beauty is amazing, but the rooms are in disrepair. The heater did not work, and instead of fixing it, they brought in a space heater. The sliding door to the deck would not open, making the deck unusable. Every ice machine I could find was out of order. Wallpaper was peeling. Renovation is overdue. If they work on it, it could become great again, but until then, I will stay elsewhere.

This place has seen better days. Now i believe they have upgraded some rooms. Those may be worth it. The older rooms are minimal and not worth the price.
The location is fantastic. Just a short walk to the beach. And the property does have nice walkways

Coffee shop and bakery was fresh and good. Staff were friendly and helpful
