We adopted Nova (formerly Lovey Cat) about 2 years ago. It was a wonderful experience and the staff at Amador were very knowledgeable and kind. The adoption process was straightforward, and they were transparent on the phone regarding her shy behavior and history. She warmed up to us after several weeks and is actually so affectionate!

The facility was clean and well put together. I can tell the animals were well taken care of while they waited for their forever home. We couldn’t be more happy with Nova and hope others consider adopting their family members from Amador as well.

What a great adoption experience! The staff was knowledgeable about the dogs they have awaiting adoption. The two individuals that assisted me were very transparent about the pros and cons of each of the dogs I considered.

I strongly encourage everyone to give serious consideration to adopting a shelter animal when getting a pet!!

I adopted Buddy last week from here and the staff was great! Very helpful and very friendly. They made sure to answer any questions you have. They made the adoption very easy. He's been super since he's been here. He's in his forever home now and doing great! Thank you and awesome job

About 8 years ago my family adopted a dog named Fawn who we still have. A few weeks ago we adopted Marianne and Wanda ( now Faith and Hope.) They will be happy, spoiled, and safe for the rest of their lives. I would like to say thanks to the great staff here. Excellent, clean place. They take excellent care of the animals. Thanks again. May be back someday!

I adopted a wonderful dog that we all love so much. Christine and the rest of the staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and positive. I couldn't have ever expected a better adoption experience. I am very thankful for Amador County Animal Control and Adoption services. Great people helping animals and people!

Delightful staff who clearly care about the animals. I was there to register my dog and observed two strays being brought in by two different families. What struck me was how positively both dogs responded to the staff. They were clearly nervous/uncertain, but the staff used soft, gentle body language and tones and the dogs responded to them like they were old friends. I also heard a staff member talk on the phone with one of the owners of the stray, who said they didn't want to come pick him up. Her facial expression was sad and frustrated but her tone was polite and nonjudgemental. Impressed all around.

Went there at one o'clock not realizing they take a 2 hour lunch and was told to CALL at 2 because they might not be open. The woman asked what I was there for and told her exactly the pet I would like to adopt. Instead of calling, I went there at 2 because I live pretty far away. At 1:55 I entered the building and to my surprise someone was there adopting the pet I asked to adopt, but she told me to go away until AFTER 2pm?. Younger gentleman goes into somewhat of a rant about being short staffed. If ppl treated you like this at a restaurant, you would figure they're the type of people who spit in your food before serving it. It was the third attempt to adopt at this facility and same guy with various excuses why you can't see or adopt until tomorrow, if we decide to open.

These people do nothing. I was attacked by three UNLICENSED dogs. I call animal control about it, they go out and do not even cite the owner. They 'ask' the owner to license their dogs and give them two weeks. Two weeks later, I still haven't heard anything. They are leaving residents and themselves open to huge lawsuits.

You have no protection and they will not do the bare minimum of their jobs. I will be letting everyone I know know about them.
