First off, let me state that I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience.
The two strongest points about this place are the extremely friendly service and the comforting time capsule feel of the place.
That being said, I found the star of my meal, the chicken pot pie, to be nothing truly remarkable.
Before I go any further, I don't like posting reviews that are not super positive unless I actually had a miserable experience, which I didn't.
Would I return to this place?
Yes, absolutely!
Would I drive all the way up from Long Beach to go here, probably not, unless I was meeting a like-minded person who enjoys time capsule dining as much as I do.
You get a lot of food for your money!
The side salad, which comes with green bean salad on top of it was actually quite tasty, though might be off-putting to some.
The dinner rolls were soft, delicious and melted in my mouth.
I would probably try the chicken pot pie again, just perhaps with the gravy on the side.
The mashed potatoes are what really made me sad.
I don't usually get snobbish about food, and I grew up with instant mashed potatoes, but these were really not enjoyable.
Maybe it was just an off day for that batch of potatoes?
I still ate them as I dislike food waste, but I would definitely avoid them next time.
My dinner even came with a choice of dessert. I picked the rice pudding, which was excellent and my favorite part of the meal by far!
If I'm in the area again I'd love to try this place out for breakfast.
You can truly tell it is beloved by locals, and for good reason!
My only other piece of advice for the owners would be to change out the light bulbs for something a little warmer. The cool white light bulbs they have in the majority of the fixtures really clash with the vintage 70s vibes, especially the ones over the counter!
This place has been going strong for 49 years. (Since 1975)
I hope they keep going for another 49 at least!

This is for the take out review.
Unbaked chicken pie togo. Cashier/ server was super slow, I was the only customer waiting for unbaked chicken pie
They ran out at the display case so the server went to the back and grabbed a full tray to the front so she wrapped each one up, one by one almost as she was taking her sweet time. Like come on pick it up just because the restaurant is slow at the moment doesn't mean you should be slow too. By the way I only ordered 1 dozen(12 individual pie).
A veteran server I see on my side eye stare her down a couple times like "hurry up" customer is waiting.

Throwback to an earlier generation. Friendly, helpful service remembers the regulars, and there seem to be a good number of them. Prices are good, especially in these days. Chicken pies are very good. Crust is not as flaky as some that I've had, but not bad. Gravy is good and generous. The mashed potatoes are good. The green beans are like the canned type that I grew up with. How many places give you a soup or salad and dessert with your dinner? Not many, unless you pay extra for them. I had a salad, and bread pudding for dessert. Hadn't had that for a long time. It was good with a generous serving of whipped cream. Serving size was more than adequate. My son said that they sometimes get the family dinner, which sounds like a good deal for the price. Lots of free parking.

Ordered mixed chicken pot pies for a Thanksgiving family gathering. So tasty and tender! Will definitely come here again.

I was staying at a friends house and asked if any of his local places did proper wholesome food and he recommended here! He also said it was family run, which a major plus for me, as I like to support such places if I can.

We went along and after a fun chat with the waitress, placed our orders. We had soup and salad for starters, with absolutely delicious bread!

Then we had Beef Pot Pie, with mashed potato, greens and thick gravy (Just like back in the UK). I have to say, it was delicious and I never thought I'd be able to have a pie and gravy in the states, like back home.

This was all finished with ice-cream and I have to say the Mint choc chip reminded me of the equivalent Viennetta from home. The taste and texture, identical, which was good.

Overall, the experience was excellent and the food hit the mark perfectly. I wish we had a similar place back in the UK near me.

This place has been here for so long. It definitely stands out among all the Asian restaurants. It’s got that old diner feel inside. My dad and I used to pickup their pot pies by the dozen and just keep them in the freezer. My first time actually dining inside haha. The staff are super nice and welcoming. Nothing beats having one of their fresh pot pies. I had the dinner plate with and extra pot pie…I could’ve done without the extra, but I loved it.

Nice cozy vibe. Tried the chicken pot die dinner and got SO MUCH food for the price! The pot pie was delicious! The carrots were soft and mildly sweet, you could tell they were fresh. Had my apple pie to go and got a hefty amount of crust (which I enjoy). Will definitely go back to try more. I am not a fan of mashed potatoes but there's was smooth and creamy to the taste. They sell the pies to go as well if you prefer to try it at home.

Very comfortable family restaurant. Food is good, dinner includes the entre, soup or salad, and side. Best thing, it includes a dessert (couple of choices available). The chicken pie is great, the portion could be bigger (should have ordered the second pie for a little bit extra $).
