I didn’t have a good experience selling a calf through this auction barn. Typically we haul in lots but this was a one off. Had a calf hauled here and according to their records, he arrived healthy but on the sale ticket, he was sold as crippled and I got 44 cents a pound for 685 lb calf. Called and got an adjustment of 1.79 a pound but had a total of $71.74 in fees taken out of both checks combined.
I called to clarify if this was an error and I could sense frustration from the lady I was speaking with. After I said other sale barns don’t take $60-70 out of a check. I asked if that would happen if I took a lot of calves and she couldn’t answer my question. She just said I’m welcome to take them to another sale barn.
In an economy where input prices are high and we’re trying to make a living, it’s unfortunate hearing something like this. Very sad to raise a healthy calf yet due to unfortunate circumstances get sold as a cripple and take a loss. It’s even tougher to swallow the communication received.

Lesson learned. I won’t be bringing cattle here nor referring any customers here.
