Not perfect since its opening but its a good use of large desert. During a long drive it breaks up the boring landscape. This place is an example of good intentions as it does somewhat reduce our negative impact on the environment however they have been fined for violating air pollution standards.

Very cool place and a great engineering design! Makes me want to build one in my backyard! ?

Good intentions but in application will never come close to what a small nuclear plant would provide. Solar farms are nowhere near as clean and environmentally friendly as “advertised.”

Go nuclear. Don't listen to the liberal nonsense. Temperamental arent we. Can't take a joke.

An impressive sight to see on our drive from Tuscon, AZ to Palm Springs, CA on I-8. According to Wikipedia, when commissioned in 2013 it was the largest parabolic trough plant in the world and the first U.S. solar plant with molten salt thermal energy storage. It has a total capacity of 280 megawatts (MW), enough to power 70,000 homes while avoiding around 475,000 tons of CO2 every year.

The Bruce A and B nuclear plants in Ontario, Canada at full capacity produce 6,232 Megawatts of power in 1100 acres of land. This solar facility generates 230 Megawatts in 1920 acres. So to replace the capacity of Bruce you would need 53,000 acres of solar reflectors...in Canada no less

I worked on the design of the parabolic trough for this plant. It was one of the most poorly run engineering departments I've seen in my 40 years of experience. Ultimately, the collector design failed and they fell back to an older design that could not meet the requirements. Soon after it went into service, the collector field was hit by a tornado or microburst. I heard that an estimated 20% of the collectors were out of service. This thing is an economic disaster for AZ.
