Spaces of Opportunity is such a beautiful place! The people at the Farmers Market are friendly and kind. The Farmers growing their produce are helpful with explaining the growing process. I have enjoyed being here on the days they have Farmer’s Markets and Celebrations.

This is a wonderful concept for community land use. Community Gardening, weekly Farmers Market, and monthly volunteer events is only just the beginning of what is going to be happening at the Spaces of Opportunity Garden.

Awesome place! May not look like much at first glance, but walk around and see what's growing and talk to the gardeners (farmers!), and there's a Miracle happening here!

In 5 short years, this large space transformed from a piece of abandoned property with multiple gangs cutting through it, to a vibrant group of gardens that feed families and provide organic food for CSA boxes and farmer's markets.

It's not "pristine" like most people think of gardens, it looks more like desert scrub bushes--the edible plants are nestled among the weeds which are planted as companion plants to ward off rodents and insects. It's not manicured, it's rough and real. All natural here, baby!

And the gangs still walk through to get to nearby stores, and they also show up on Saturdays to help! Door to door invitations to the surrounding neighborhoods have made this garden a true Community! On 2nd Saturdays, stop by and see a hundred plus volunteers of college students, neighbors, and other folks jamming to a DJ while they dig, plant, weed, clear, till and harvest, and form new bonds with all.

Partnerships with Desert Botanical Gardens, Orcott | Winslow environmental architects, The Orchard and other organizations are providing the garden design, infrastructure and soon canopies for their own permanent farmer's market.

No graffiti here, only colorful murals. No vandalism, only respect. No hate, only people coming together to learn and help each other and prosper. This is how it should be.

Please visit the Spaces of Opportunity website for information on Darin the visionary and Bruce the manager, and all that they've accomplished and what's coming in the future. Check out their events page, put a date on your calendar, and show up and experience a true community.
