I love that there are people set on rescuing precious creatures and glad I was able to put in and be approved app for adoption but I failed having seen the adoption fee before filling it out...so bad on my part I will just continue to mourn the loss of my fur baby and hope something comes along later that won't break my wallet. Thanks for getting my hopes up and redirecting my grief for a few days.

I wanted to adopt an animal that I saw on their website however, the adoption application form was pretty invasive. Even after the personal questions about my children’s ages when they started asking for multiple references and requested to come inspect my home, I realized this place is not for your average person who just wants to adopt a pet they will love and care for. If you are a person who chooses to have a pet instead of children this might be more your speed. For someone who has a family and enjoys privacy, it seemed a little too invasive of a process for simply adopting a pet.

DO NOT ADOPT FROM THIS RESCUE!

I have never encountered a rescue that is so shady, unprofessional, and greedy in my whole residence in Alaska. This rescue will blatantly ignore prompts & applications for the rescues. It seems like they don't actually want to find these dogs forever homes. They just want their adoption fee & they don’t care about the type of family they are adopting to. Even though they present that illusion on social media. They do not have the interest of the dogs @ heart. I genuinely do not think they should be in operation anymore. They also will not take accountability for their mistakes & improper actions regarding the people that VOLUNTEER to help foster for them. Please take your business elsewhere! I sure as hell am!

We have been following the Facebook group for this organization for months and when we decided to apply for a puppy it was a complete let down. We applied for a puppy and never received notice or communication from this organization. None at all. It is understandable if the puppy was adopted by someone who submitted a request first but we spent days waiting to hear ANYTHING and then BAM! *adopted* popped up on the photo and we still have not heard back on our paperwork.

Best Friends Animal Rescue is amazing - the coordinators and volunteers put their heart and soul into the work they’re doing! They have a fantastic spay and return program for rural Alaskan Village dogs at no cost to the owners, and they work closely with other partner rescues like Paws of Nome to bring dogs down to the Matsu valley to find forever homes. They also take in owner surrenders due to hardships or death in the families, which is a great service to our local community. They’re one of the only rescues in the state that is willing to ship animals to adopters in SE Alaska - this is amazing for animal lovers in places like Ketchikan and Juneau where loving homes are aplenty and rescue pets are not. They are doing such a good job at so many things it’s easy to forget that, as a registered 501c3 nonprofit, they are completely volunteer ran with all animals living in private, volunteer foster homes. This organization relies on donations and adoption fees to keep giving back to the community, so please volunteer, donate or adopt to help them help more animals. Plus - the dogs are CUTE!

My daughter's companion dog ? came from this amazing group of volunteers.
We knew that we were getting a dog that was healthy, vaccinated, chipped and a good fit.
I liked the work that they do so much, that I am now a volunteer with BFAR and will do whatever I can to help get the job of getting desperate animals into forever, loving homes. ❤️

The volunteers are angels on earth working tirelessly to find these these pups their perfect, forever home. It’s clear they’re passionate about the animals. I wish I could afford to adopt more because I’d adopt again from BFAR.
