We had an excellent experience with the bear trip with Alaska Ocean Pros, The captain Jimmy and guide Britt made it an enjoyable and fun trip. They put us in position to see 9 bears and with 2 of them pretty up close and personal. We felt safe and and never felt threatened by the bears. Both were very knowledgeable and professional and also enjoyable to talk to. We were fortunate to have good weather and the ride was pretty smooth. A great experience to be able to view the bears in their environment in Lake Clark and I would definitely book with Alaska Ocean Pros again.

After taking this trip, I am convinced that choosing a boat over a plane is the way to go! Gabe, our guide Sam, we’re bringing us places that you couldn’t even go if you were on foot. That was a stand out to me. I can confidently say spending your hard earned money if you want to see bears, they are the ones to go with! I Took a trip with my oldest son, and we both enjoyed the boat ride, seeing in photographing bears, and other wildlife. Felt super safe the whole time and it was educational as well. Hoping to bring my younger son next year. Thank you guys!

Had a great time! I did the Bear tour in Lake Clark National Park. Had Sam as a tour guide, and he did great! He coordinated with the boat captains and other your group, and quickly brought us over to where the bears were sighted. He ensured our safety at all times, and even spotted a sleeping sow and cub next to us in the trees, when no one else noticed.

Also... Do NOT bring small children. This is not the place for it. At one point the groups were together and the parents in the other group could not control their young daughter. She wandered around, made noise, and would get in people's way. This slowed the group down and caused gaps in the line, all of which can be dangerous. It's not the guide's fault, and I understand where the parents are coming from, but clearly 8 years old is too young for most kids to patiently watch and appreciate wildlife/nature. Please leave the little ones behind with someone, or don't go until you know they will do well in a potentially DANGEROUS situation.

Large family group chartered a custom trip with Captain Gabe and his crew. We had a great time and the weather was phenomenal. We appreciate that Alaska Ocean Pros put the guest's safety as a top priority. We were on the Casino which was really nice and comfortable. Special shout out to crew member Sam who did a great job.

Boat ride from Homer, AK to Lake Clark National Park. Thanks so much to Jimmy and Britt. We saw 17 bears three of which were cubs. Brit got us so close we could hear the male bear breath and grunt. (10ft?) All for the half the price of flying out to Lake Clark National Park

We were so happy with our bear tour through Alaska Ocean Pros. Our boat driver and guides did an excellent job, and we were so fortunate to see several brown bears that were pretty close. The waters were rough on the way over and our boat driver did an excellent job navigating the waves. They were both friendly and knowledgeable. We'd definitely use them again.

We went on a bear watching tour from Homer Harbor to Chinitna Bay in Lake Clarke National Park with Alaska Ocean Pros on July 4. We booked the tour in March. Our capatain was Jimmy and our first mate was Sam. Departure was scheduled for noon. There were 4 other people on the boat with us. Originally there was supposed to be a full boat, but two parties didn't show up. Jimmy tried to called them, but got no answer.

The day was pretty windy so we had a very rough 2-hour ride over the Cook Inlet. Jimmy was very active in navigating over the swells and cutting the throttle to avoid pounding. The views on the ride were amazing. We could see Mounts Iliana a and Augustine (two volcanoes) very clearly. We saw a number of sea otters near Homer and lots of sea birds (Sam told us what kind, but I forget. Possibly Murres).

When we arrived at the bay we were dropped off at a bear viewing site. Jimmy pulled the boat very close to shore and lowered the ramp. Sam added a gangplank to the ramp so we could walk ashore with dry feet. Jimmy stayed in the boat offshore and Sam went with us (you are not allowed to have bear spray). It was a short walk to the first bear viewing station. There were two sows (one with one cub and one with another) who were pretty close to the viewing area. They seemed to mostly ignore us, but did move a little farther away as we were there. There were a total of 13 bears visible in the meadow. I have a full-frame camer and a 400 mm lens with a 1.4x extender and was able to get some nice bear pictures, though not has exciting as if they had been chasing salmon.

After a while, Jimmy picked us up and moved us to another viewing area. At that area there was one sow with 2 cups close to us and another bear in the distance. This one wasn’t quite as close as at the first viewing site. We walked to a 3rd site and saw another bear, but farther away. We were at the 3 viewing sites a total of a little less than 2 hours. We saw 2 other groups, I think staying at Bear Lodge who traveled in a bus on the beach, at the later 2 viewing areas. Sam told us they would have to wait for low tide to go to the 1st area we visited because their bus had to stay on the beach and there was private land in between.

The ride back was similar to the ride there. My wife often gets motion sick. She took Antivert (OTC meclizine) before both trips and was fine. I wasn’t the least bit sick and it never felt unsafe, but the ride wasn’t pleasant. We had to stay in the cabin to avoid getting wet, and I couldn’t take pictures on the trip.

It was a fantastic trip and well worth the two hour trip each way. The crew was great and I would highly recommend this company.

What a great experience with Captain Gabe and his crew. I have done several inland water charters and never liked the 5am starts. Captain Gabe sets a 7am start time, which made even the start of the day a positive experience and never even had a negative impact on fishing. Every spot was a winner and every guest was catching fish nonstop all day. I would definitely book a trip again next time I am in Alaska.
