We were looking for things to do during the off-season in Fairbanks and came across a recommendation for the mill tour, and it was great! Very reasonably priced and we learned a lot. We saw the machines used to process the wool/fiber from sheep, alpacas, musk ox, and even reindeer. We went after a tour of the Large Animal Research Station and it was very cool to learn about the animals and their coats and then learn about how they're processed and turned into fibers. I got a few skeins of the yarn she produces, which I'm excited to use in my next project. We recommend this tour for someone looking for something educational to do for a reasonable price, especially if you're a fiber artist interested in learning about how the fiber you use is produced. If you're lucky, you might even get greeted by the very enthusiastic welcome dog Noodle, like we were.
