I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at Black Cat Organic Farms in Boulder, Colorado, this past fall, and it was an incredible experience. The landscape was stunning – with rolling hills and a sunflower field that made for the perfect backdrop. The couples day was laid-back yet timely, and the staff did an excellent job keeping everything running smoothly.

The farm-to-table meal was one of the best I’ve ever had at a wedding, and the venue felt like an upscale backyard garden party – cozy and elegant at the same time. The couple’s focus on spending quality time together made it even more special. They even had a live band to keep the energy high, and we got some amazing sunset portraits in the sunflower field.

Black Cat Organic Farms is both a great place to eat and wedding venue. I highly recommend it for couples seeking a unique, picturesque location for their wedding day!

Let me begin by saying that no matter how carefully I choose my words—whether brief or elaborate—I will never fully do justice to the extraordinary dining experience at Black Cat Farm. This isn’t merely a meal; it’s an experience, one that lingers in your memory long after the last bite.

I first discovered Black Cat Farm on a warm summer evening in June 2022, captivated by its charm and ethos. (You’ll find some photos from that unforgettable night included.) Sadly, shortly after, the farm faced regulatory challenges that temporarily shuttered its doors. However, last month marked their triumphant return, and they’ve reclaimed their place as one of the most unique dining destinations in the area.

The setting alone is remarkable. Guests are seated in one of 10-15 glass bungalows scattered across the farm, each outfitted with a wood-burning stove for warmth during the colder months. These spaces embody thoughtful, heritage-inspired design, complete with soft wool blankets spun from the farm’s own sheep. In the summer, the farm buzzes with life—chickens, ducks, and other animals roam freely, adding to the rustic charm. In winter, the scene transforms into a snowy wonderland, framed by majestic, snow-capped mountains.

As for the meal itself, Black Cat Farm offers a dining concept rooted in trust and creativity. There’s no menu to browse; instead, the incredibly talented team crafts a bespoke, farm-to-table feast that reflects the season and the land. Everything is grown, sourced, and prepared on-site, often from plants and trees just steps from your table. Each course is delivered with a detailed explanation of its ingredients and origins, shared with warmth and authenticity. Far from feeling pretentious, this approach highlights the deep care and passion behind every dish.

This ethos is best exemplified by the owner himself, who might be driving the tractor in the morning and serving plates in the evening. His presence underscores the hands-on dedication that defines Black Cat Farm—it’s unassuming, genuine, and deeply personal.

The food is nothing short of extraordinary. Every dish is an exercise in balance, thoughtfulness, and creativity. The flavors invite you to savor, reflect, and discuss, turning the meal into a shared experience of discovery. The pacing between courses allows time to linger over each bite and appreciate the craftsmanship behind the presentation.

There is simply no other dining experience in the metro area that compares. Black Cat Farm is a rare gem, blending innovation, authenticity, and a touch of magic. If you’re seeking something truly special, look no further. Reservations open every Monday on their website, and they disappear quickly—don’t let this opportunity pass you by.

What a beautiful experience, I’m already planning our next visit. Food was absolutely divine. The atmosphere was perfect and it was especially cozy, it’s a great place to embrace the winter season while waiting for spring and summer. I can’t wait to try it during every season. One of the best dining experiences in Boulder and worth every penny!

Last night, my husband and I enjoyed a magical night and extraordinary experience at Black Cat Farmstead. If I could give them more than 5 🌟s, I would. The service by everyone was so personal and warm (and we were even served one course by the owner/head chef/brilliant mastermind, Eric!); the setting…the farm, barn and dining cabanas, absolutely beautiful; the food was plentiful, delicious and mind-blowingly creative! It will be a treasured dining experience and memory of ours forever. We left with a full belly and also a full heart thanks to the love and kindness put into every detail and moment of our experience. Thank you, thank you! We look forward to returning.

I've photographed a couple of wedding receptions at Black Cat this year, and it's such a beautiful venue! Perfect for anything from an intimate micro-wedding in their main barn/building to a traditional reception in a party tent on the farm. The food is always delicious (as you'd expect, it's kinda their main thing), but just as importantly for me as a photographer is the gorgeous property. It's got such charm, lots of spots that make for great photos, and it's perfectly positioned for a long golden hour before the sun disappears behind the mountains—a hard thing to find in Boulder wedding venues!

We just had the most amazing dinner at Black Cat Farm. The long awaited re-opening post Covid is finally here and Chef Eric and his wife Jill did not disappoint. Between the starters, appetizers, sides and main dishes, we had the pleasure of trying about 10 different dishes. All were sourced as locally as possible and delivered on the sweetest mismatched china and silver. The fire was roaring in the corner of our private greenhouse and we could not have asked for a more romantic and cozy night out. Highly recommend and very worth the investment!

PS, part of the desert was lobster-flavored popcorn. Incredible!

Blown away is the best description.
A truly amazing experience. The food was incredible, but the venue and the staff make the experience. I loved that the owner/chef came around and discussed the courses with us. Top 3 dining experiences of my life.

We had such a great dining experience, surrounded by the farm animals, amazing mountain views, good wine and amazing fresh food! Just be aware that they run on their own pace, plan to stay there for 3 hours.
