I really wanted to give a higher rating however my last trip here was disappointing. I live 2 hours away and I called ahead to pick up some feed that isn't stocked at stores in the South Bay. I decided to pick up some timothy pellets and when I got home discovered they were moldy. When I called the store to explain my discovery and requested a refund they insisted I bring the bag of moldy pellets in. Kinda hard when you live 2 hours from the store and only get to the north bay a few times a year. So if you live far from this store inspect your purchase carefully so you don't get burned like I did.

They are super helpful. Prices are great, selection is unbeatable. If you need something they don’t have in stock, they’ll order it. My dog loves going in even though she’s not at all food motivated. She wants to sniff for rodents in the hay and alfalfa and they let her. Always a treat.

I've gone to this place for a number of years for different reasons; bird, bunny, dog and cat supplies and accessories - always a healthy selection. And if you crave distractions there is a fun koi pond and (at different times of the year) baby chicks and ducklings. Just a fun store to browse through - very well organized 🙂

TL;DR: Their vet clinic is there on Saturdays from 1pm - 2:30pm and getting this information was like pulling teeth and took weeks. You're welcome - good luck finding this info anywhere else.

I REALLY want to like this store. I find the setting very charming, and obviously their selection is vast and very well catered to our little agricultural town. However, my personal experience (as just a dog owner) has not been great. I got my dog her last checkup in January this year, but she was not due for her rabies vaccine until recently. When I called my vet to schedule it, they said I would need another checkup to get the vaccine from them but that Rivertown does a vet clinic on Saturdays that will do rabies vaccines without a checkup. Great! So I checked their website for the hours of the clinic in case they aren't there all day, but there was nothing listed in the clinic section about it (screenshot of all the information about the vet clinic they have on their website, and I've archived it on WayBack), so I reasonably assumed it IS there all day. Well, it isn't. I showed up on a Saturday at 11am, and the employee told me the clinic doesn't open until 1pm. Couldn't make it back at 1pm that day, so I came back another Saturday at 4pm, assuming it was 1pm to closing because if it wasn't, she would've mentioned if they leave earlier, right? Nope! When I got there, a different employee told me they leave at 2:30pm (notably did not mention they get there at 1pm). So neither their website nor their employees can give you adequate information (also didn't see any flyers with information while I was there, but to be fair I didn't do an extensive search - just a look over at the register and their front door). For a low-cost (so, competitive) vet clinic that is there one day per week for only 1.5 hours, I don't really find that acceptable. Hopefully you don't need an appointment because they mentioned nothing about that either, however by now I know to call ahead of time to confirm. However I wouldn't be surprised if there is still something else that is going to get in my way that wouldn't be mentioned during that call.

Rivertown, please just put this information on your website. It's such a tiny bit of information that is so important and I don't get why no one thought it was worth including. Or, why your employees are only giving partial bits of information to people seeking medical care for their pets. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has wasted so much time and gas showing up only to be turned away. Offering this clinic is such a kindness, but you need to make information about it accessible!

I've always loved this place. They have everything, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. One of the most important shops in Petaluma.
Rivertown is also a good place to buy Christmas gifts for your pet loving friends.
